My family are quite simply the most important thing to me. That doesn't mean they don't drive me crazy at times and yoga always comes in useful even if I just want to be in my own space for half an hour. At our very centre is our cat Pinky. I adore her. In rescue for six months she came with a myriad of health problems from arthritis to depression, yes apparently animals can suffer from depression. She's certainly a project, but also the glue in our family DNA. She roots us to our home and is the magnet that attracts my older children to come back.
Feeling rooted is such an important factor in everyday happiness. Pinky certainly helps us to stay connected. Apart geographically it is the daily photograph update on Pinky's activities - which generally consist of eating, sleeping, cuddles, an occasional patio stroll - that brings our family together in constant communication.
Our pet Pinky is so much more than an adorable fluff of cuteness, she is the magnet that draws us together and roots us in our safe haven of home. I tend Pinky with great care because even as my roaming children are dispensing the ties, as long as Pinky is treading the boards of our home I suspect they will come and visit often.
